1917 Denver & Rio Grande Railway Wreck Photos & Charles Gibb
We acquired the 3 original photographs and copies of the accounts of this wreck from original family members in Grand Junction. Included in this archive are 2 original 5 1/2" x 3 1/4" photographs of the wrecked engine that were taken by a neighbor of Charles Gibbs shortly after the wreck and eventually given to the family. Also a photograph of Charles Gibbs (The Denver & Rio Grande Engineer) taken a few years before he died in the tragic wreck, measures 4" x 6" taken by D.N. Wheeler Studio Grand Junction Colorado. Also a copy of the newspaper dated June 29 1917, stating One dead, two hurt in Rio Grande Wreck with a detailed accounting of what happened. Also a copy of the original death certificate which states the cause of death as "Killed By D&RG R.R." Great piece of history of a little known tragedy in Denver & Rio Grande Railway history.
