"Downing The Nigh Leader" By Frederic Remington Copr. P. F. Collier & Son Print

An excellent original print of Frederic Remington's "Downing The Nigh Leader" painting in original frame with original label. This piece is in excellent condition, with a few minor scruffs and scratches to the wooden frame, with no wear or damage to this incredible print. No hanging wire is present. It bears the marking of "Copr. P. F. Collier & Son" with Remington's signature. The antique prints from a 1903 contract between Remington and Collier's Magazine. Under this agreement, Remington would create and retain original oil paintings and sell the reproduction rights to Collier's. For the first time, the artist was paid to select his own Western subjects rather than simply illustrate the work of others. Remington destroyed over 100 of his paintings, and these rare Collier's prints remain the only existing testimony of many of those lost originals. The print measures 17 7/8 x 10 1/2 inches, with the overall measurement with frame increasing it to 25 x 17 1/2 inches.
