19th Century Jean Baptiste Clesinger Beautiful Signed Bronze
This is a beautiful, rather rare and desirable bronze piece done by Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clésinger, a famous French artist who was very prolific in the 1800's up until his death in 1883. His work is still on display in various chapels and museums around Europe, still enjoyed by many nearly two centuries later. This piece shows three women standing together, with their robes not quite entirely on. The pose is still tasteful, showing a classical theme and a beautiful execution with exquisite details present throughout, primarily within the hair and the flowing cloth that shows a skillful hand and truly artistic craftsmanship. This bronze sculpture shows the name of Clesinger on the back, carved nicely into the base of the piece. This particular example was acquired from a veteran of World War 1, who had brought it back with him after his tour of France, giving a nice provenance to this piece. It weighs in at 7.7 pounds, and measures approximately 11 inches tall, and 6 3/8 inches wide. Overall, an excellent, truly classical piece.
